About Me

Teacher, Potter, & Christ-Follower

Functional Art enters the world of the viewer to provide a service.  From the coffee cup that wakes me up in the morning to the afghan that lulls me to sleep at night, I’m surrounded by functional art. Through its use, I feel the artist’s passion for their medium and the love that pours out of their hand made pieces.Art that can be used! Ceramic Plates delivering nourishment, Brass Earrings that dress up any old outfit, or Knitted Scarfs fending off the cold: all utilitarian and be
autiful.

I first discovered my love of ceramics during my junior year at the University of Tennessee where I studied Studio Art and Elementary Education. I was captivated by the process of throwing on the wheel and instantly became a permanent fixture in the clay studio. After college, I completed a two-year residency at the St. Petersburg Clay Company where I fell in love with Soda Firing.

As I am forever grateful to the generations of women who passed down their love for creating purposeful masterpieces, I currently teach private wheel lessons in my home studio, sewing and up-cycling classes to 9-12 year old girls at a Inner-City After School Art Program, and hold Craft Sessions for small groups of women in the community.

When my hands aren’t muddy with clay, or craft supplies, you can find me cooking for friends and family. As Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and my purpose is to spread God’s Love through serving, teaching, and art, my favorite artistic utilitarian act occurs when I can serve guests a homemade meal on my handmade pottery.

At present, I live and work in St. Petersburg, FL with my wonderful husband Omar,  our dog Bailey, and our cat LoJack.
